Dr. Richard E. Holmes became the first African American student admitted to Mississippi State University on July 19, 1965. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of that event Sunday during a reception were: MSU President Mark E. Keenum, Holmes, his wife Judie Holmes, and MSU Assistant Vice President for Multicultural Affairs Cedric Gathings.
