Grant’s Bicentennial Year

The Ulysses S. Grant Association and the U.S. Grant Presidential Library at Mississippi State University celebrated the 18th president’s bicentennial year with an annual meeting and events in March 2022. Grant was born on April 27, 1822. One commemorative event was a tree dedication in front of Mitchell Memorial Library which houses the Grant Library. Marking the occasion were, from left, John Marszalek, MSU William L. Giles distinguished professor emeritus; MSU Associate Professor Anne Marshall, USGA and Grant Library executive director; Ulysses Grant Dietz, U. S. Grant’s great-great grandson; James A. Bultema, president of the U.S. Grant Association; Retired Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court Frank Williams, also the association’s past president; and Mark E. Keenum, MSU president.
