More than 1,000 community members gathered at The Mill at MSU to celebrate King’s legacy and hear a challenging message from the 1980 Starkville High School graduate who went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps and as a member of the Presidential Honor Guard under former President Ronald Reagan. Carpenter also has extensive law enforcement experience with the Starkville Police Department and Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department
