Commending a Life-Saving Effort

Mississippi State President Mark E. Keenum and Chief of Police Vance Rice recognized three members of the university police department Tuesday [Aug. 6] for taking life-saving action during a May incident response.Pictured, from left, are Rice, Officer Mikayla Sanford, Corporal Patrick Jenkins, Corporal Willie Bailey and Keenum. On May 3, the three officers were dispatched regarding a vehicle passenger having a medical issue. Upon arrival, the officers moved the victim to a safe location and determined he had no pulse and was not breathing. After retrieving an automated external defibrillator, the officers delivered a shock and administered CPR until the victim regained consciousness. They then assisted EMS personnel in loading the victim into an ambulance.
