The Executive Council held its monthly meeting in Lee Hall at 1:30 p.m. Present were Dr. Mark Keenum, presiding, Dr. Jason Barrett, Dr. Keith Coble, Ms. Leslie Corey, Ms. Lesia Ervin, Mr. Kennedy Guest, Dr. Regina Hyatt, Ms. Christine Jackson, Dr. Julie Jordan, Ms. Cathy Lammons, Ms. Joan Lucas, Mr. Sid Salter, Dr. David Shaw, Ms. Anna Webb, Mr. Don Zant, and Mr. Jim Laird.

Dr. Jordan presented OP 76.01: Intellectual Property. This update is intended to add clarity to the policy. The minor changes do not affect current practices or processes related to the policy. Council members voted to approve.

Dr. Shaw presented three policies for consideration:

• OP 01.20: Use of Copyrighted Works for Education and Research. This update consists of minor changes to add clarity to the policy. There are no substantive changes. Council members voted to approve.
• AOP 13.02: Selection of William L. Giles Distinguished Professors. This update provides additional information about the application process for the William L. Giles Distinguished Professorship. It also provides for successful application packets to be on file with MSU Libraries so that interested faculty may review them in order to see what comprises a successful application. Council members voted to approve.
• AOP 13.12: Intersession Teaching. This update adds clarity, further guidance, and facilitates the possibility of additional compensation for faculty who teach during intersessions. Council members voted to approve.

Additionally, OP 06.04: Public Requests Request Procedures was presented as an information item. No changes to the policy were found to be necessary during the latest review, and so a vote was not required for this update.

Executive Council will not meet in December because of the university’s winter holiday break.
