The Executive Council held its monthly meeting in Lee Hall at 1:30 p.m. Present were Dr. Mark Keenum, presiding, Dr. Tracey Baham, Dr. Jason Barrett, Dr. Keith Coble, Ms. Leslie Corey, Ms. Ra’Sheda Forbes, Ms. Christine Jackson, Dr. Julie Jordan, Ms. Cathy Lammons, Ms. Joan Lucas, Mr. Cameron Mayers, Mr. Steve Parrott, Dr. David Shaw, Mr. Sid Salter, Mr. Don Zant, and Mr. Jim Laird.

Dr. Keenum and Dr. Shaw presented for discussion:

-- Election of Mr. Salter, the university’s chief communications officer and director of the Office of Public Affairs, as a member of the Executive Council. Council members voted to approve.

-- After his election, Mr. Salter provided members with an update of the university’s branding initiatives that will be rolling out this fall, beginning with the national television commercial that will premier during the first football game of the season on September 3.

Ms. Forbes presented:

-- OP 03.02: Statement on Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination. This policy includes the new Inclusive Excellence statement for the university, which was authored by the Committee on Inclusive Excellence Statements. This committee had representation from every college, as well as membership from units across campus. Council members voted to approve.

-- OP 91.304: Free Speech and Assembly. This policy was updated to describe the university's procedure to review and approve any public statements made on behalf of the institution or any division. Council members voted to approve.

Dr. Shaw presented:

-- OP 60.109: Records Management and Security. This update includes minor changes as part of the regular review process. Council members voted to approve.

Drs. Coble, Jordan, and Shaw presented a policy for rescission:

-- OP 56.06: Research, Extension, and Clinical Faculty Positions. This policy has been rescinded because the promotion processes described in this policy have been incorporated into the Faculty Handbook and are now covered by AOP 13.07: Faculty Promotion and Tenure Policies & Procedures.

-- Please note that AOP 13.07 was updated with a technical change to remove references to academic faculty so that the revised language is inclusive of all faculty.
