Meeting 449 - January 25, 2016
Executive Council met at 1:30 p.m. at Lee Hall. Present were Dr. Mark Keenum, presiding, Dr. Julia Hodges, Dr. Bob Williams, Dr. Regina Hyatt, Ms. Cathy Gelston, Mr. Mike Rackley, Ms. Tamara Gibson, Mr. Joe Farris, Ms. Lesia Ervin, Dr. Tim Chamblee, Ms. Cathy Lammons, Mr. Don Zant, Ms. Joan Lucas, Dr. Cody Coyne, Mr. JoJo Dodd, Mr. Cedric Gathings, Ms. Amy Tuck, Mr. Don Zant, Mr. Scott Wetherbee, Ms. Joy Graves, and Ms. Judy Spencer.
Ms. Graves presented for approval an updated version of OP 01.29, Minor Protection. The revised policy provides for "covered programs," primarily educational programs for minors such as camps, to be registered with the Office of Compliance and for staff to have background checks and required training. The policy also requires all university personnel to report any suspected child abuse or neglect to designated offices or agencies. The Council recommended approval.
An updated version of HRM 60.226, Tuition Remission, Dependent Children of Employees, was removed from the agenda as requiring only minor editorial updates.
Dr. Hyatt reported a technical change to OP 95.501, Traffic and Parking Rules and Regulations, adding hoverboards to items such as skateboards and in-line skates that may not be operated on university streets.
Ms. Lammons presented a recommendation to name a new residence hall under construction, currently known as Azalea Hall, for Earnest and Mary Ann Deavenport, in recognition of long support and service to the university, including $8 million in lifetime giving for scholarships and other purposes. The council recommended approval. The proposed naming will be submitted for approval to the IHL Board of Trustees.
