Meeting 437 - April 28, 2014
Executive Council met at 1:30 p.m. at 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Mark Keenum, presiding, Dr. Peter Ryan, Dr. Greg Bohach, Dr. Bill Kibler, Mr. Don Zant, Ms. Amy Tuck, Dr. David Shaw, Mr. Brett Harris, Mr. Scott Wetherbee, Dr. Randy Follett, Mr. John Rush, Mr. Mike Rackley, Ms. Natalie Ray, Mr. Brandon Jolly, Dr. Tommy Stevenson, Mr. Joe Farris, and Ms. Lesia Ervin, and Ms. Judy Spencer.
Ms. Spencer presented for approval a new policy, HRM 60.124, Employee Work Hour Limits. The policy provides that non-benefits eligible employees may work no more than 28 hours per week, on average, during the one-year period from October 1 through September 30 each year, to minimize the risk that non-benefits eligible positions will inadvertently become benefits eligible as a result of exceeding the 30-hour work week established as the threshold for required employer-sponsored health insurance by the federal Affordable Care Act. The Council recommended approval.
Dr. Bohach presented for approval the procedures for acquisition and management of mobile wireless devices in the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine as provided for in the existing university policy on Wireless Communication Devices and Plans, OP 01.15. The Council recommended approval.
Dr. Kibler presented for approval the estimated Cost of Attendance Budgets for 2014-15. Estimated expenses for 2014-15 for an in-state undergraduate student living on campus are $16,094 for tuition and fees and room and board, with additional estimated out-of-pocket expenses for books, transportation and personal expenses likely ranging from $3,000 to $6,000. Estimated budget are also established for out-of-state, Meridian campus, and graduate students living on or off campus. The Council recommended approval.
Dr. Keenum presented for approval a proposal to rename Coliseum Drive as Bailey Howell Drive, recognizing 1956-59 MSU basketball star and NBA Hall of Fame member Bailey Howell of Starkville. The Council recommended approval.
