Meeting 424 - September 24, 2012
Executive Council met at 1:30 p.m. at 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Mark Keenum, presiding, Dr. Jerry Gilbert, Dr. Greg Bohach, Dr. Bill Kibler, Dr. David Shaw, Mr. Don Zant, Ms. Amy Tuck, Dr. Meghan Millea, Mr. John Rush, Dr. Tommy Stevenson, Mr. Mike Rackley, Dr. Cade Smith, Ms. Shelby Balius, Mr. Bo Hemphill, Mr. Mike Rackley, Mr. Joe Farris, Ms. Joan Lucas, Ms. Lesia Bryant, Ms. Judy Spencer, Mr. Brandon Jolly, and Ms. Jordan Ramsey.
Dr. Kibler presented for review OP 91.178, Policy on Non-Resident Scholarships and Waivers. After discussion, the proposed policy was withdrawn for further study.
Ms. Lucas presented for approval a revision of OP 01.04, Political Activities. The revised policy provides that MSU employees who plan to seek public office should give notice of their intent to the university and must resign from the university upon taking a full-time elected position. The Council recommended approval.
Dr. Gilbert presented for approval an updated version of the OP 03.02, Equal Opportunity Statement. The revised statement adds "pregnancy" and "sexual orientation" and deletes "group affiliation" in the listing of statuses protected from discrimination. The Council recommended approval.
Dr. Gilbert presented for approval an updated version of OP 03.03, Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy. The revised policy assigns responsibility for investigating complaints to the Department of Human Resources Management or the Dean of Students Office, as appropriate, and specifies procedures for resolving complaints. The Council recommended approval.
Dr. Gilbert presented for approval a revised version of HRM Policy 60-123, Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Reasonable Accommodation in Employment. The revised policy prohibits retaliation against a qualified individual with a disability for using the policy. The Council recommended approval.
Mr. Zant presented for approval an updated version of OP 65.04, Securing and Paying for Consultants. The Council recommended approval.
Dr. Shaw presented OP 79.07, Compliance Regarding Crisis Planning for Biosafety, to be rescinded. The policy has become redundant with all of the relevant information included in other policies. The Council recommended that the policy be rescinded.
