Executive Council met at 11 a.m. at 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Charles Lee, presiding, Dr. Peter Rabideau, Dr. Melissa Mixon, Juli Rester, Dr. Mark Goodman, Larry Templeton, Dr. Sandra Harpole, Ray Hayes, Dr. Gary Pike, and Joe Farris.

Dr. Rabideau presented for first reading Operating Policy 01.23, Social Security Number Usage. The policy provides that Social Security numbers will cease to be used as the primary identifier of individuals associated with MSU, being replaced for that purpose by a new nine-digit MSU ID number, and that Social Security numbers will be collected for purposes allowed by law, such as reporting to the IRS, but access will be strictly limited and procedures will be followed to provide for security of the numbers as a deterrent to identify theft.

Dr. Lee commented on the current Legislative session and noted that he is optimistic about prospects for appropriations for a general salary increase.

Ms. Rester reported that Staff Appreciation Day will be held on May 19 on the Drill Field.
