Meeting 366 - August 8, 2005
Executive Council met at 611 Allen Hall at 11 a.m. Present were Dr. Charles Lee, presiding, Dr. Peter Rabideau, Dr. William Kibler, Larry Templeton, Jon David Cole, Juli Rester, Dr. Melissa Mixon, Ray Hayes, Dr. Peter Wood, Mike White, Joe Farris, Dr. Melvin Ray, Dr. Eddie Keith, Tim Muzzi, Marc McGee, Carson Cook, and Bruce Wood.
Dr. Kibler reported on preliminary enrollment figures, which include an increase of more than 200 new freshmen.
Architect Bruce Wood presented design development plans for the renovation and expansion of Colvard Union. Plans call for an addition of 16,452 sq. ft. on the north and west sides of the building; creation of a food court, dining area, coffee house and retail space on the first floor; a ballroom with banquet seating for 575 on the second floor; and offices and meeting rooms for student organizations. The council recommended approval. Construction is expected to start in March 2006 and require 19 months.
Mr. Hayes recommended for approval a revised Human Resources policy and procedure on Separation of Employment for staff. The revisions consist of editorial updates. The council recommended approval.
Dr. Lee reported that federally appropriated funds for planning a southern bypass around Starkville, including a new southern entrance to campus, are expected this year, with construction funds to follow next year.
Mr. Cole announced that Bulldog Bash is planned for Sept. 23, with nine bands participating.
