Meeting 353 - July 19, 2004

Meeting Number
353

Executive Council met at 11 a.m. at 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Charles Lee, presiding, Dennis Prescott, Dr. Mark Goodman, Dr. Peter Rabideau, Dr. Vance Watson, Dr. Jimmy Abraham, Julie Berry, Dr. Melvin Ray, Charles Guest, Dr. Sara Freedman, Mike White, Dr. Phillip Nelson, and Bruce Wood, architect.

Dr. Freedman and Mr. Wood presented schematic designs for the planned addition to and renovation of McCool Hall. Action on the design was deferred to allow for additional evaluation and comment.

Dr. Nelson and Mr. White presented a proposal to create additional parking at the Wise Center. A temporary gravel lot for 60 vehicles would be created as an extension of the existing southwest lot. Longer term, new lots would be constructed in front of the Wise Center on the opposite side of the entrance drive and near the entrance to the Animal Health Center. Action was deferred pending the receipt of additional financial information about the project, with the council then to be polled by email.

Dr. Lee commented on actions taken at the previous week's Board of Trustees meeting. He noted that a Board consultant recommended against a shared computing plan but suggested that savings might be realized by additional joint purchases and creation of a data warehouse.

Dr. Rabideau noted that each IHL institution is to conduct curriculum analyses to identify needed exceptions to the newly adopted IHL regulation that 124 hours be required for most degree programs, effective in 2007.

Dr. Goodman reported that Faculty Senate is studying the 124-hour degree requirement and a post tenure review policy.

Mr. Prescott reported that fund-raising for FY 2004 totaled $146 million in gifts and pledges, including $16 million in deferred gifts. The capital campaign has recorded gifts of $166 million to date, with an overall goal announcement and public campaign kickoff planned for this fall.
