Executive Council met at 11 a.m. at 61 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Malcolm Portera, presiding, Dr. David Cole, Dennis Prescott, Cedric Henson, Dr. Jimmy Abraham, Gaddis Hunt, Sebron Harrison, Dr. Brad Carter, Dr. Dan Embree, Dr. Jonathan Pote, Daniel Bryant, Charles Guest, Paula Jernigan, Dr. Melvin Ray, Joe Farris, Julie Fulgham, Danny Cheatham, Don Parsons, Dr. Ann Bailey, J. E. Logan, and Bob Luke.

Mr. Hunt presented a proposal by Cingular Wireless to lease space for microwave transmitters on some campus buildings and on two water towers to improve wireless telephone coverage in the area. The council recommended approval of the proposal.

Dr. Bailey and Mr. Logan presented a proposal to pave the parking lot of University Drive Apartments, using funds generated by Housing and Residence Life. The council voted to recommend approval.

Dr. Carter provided an update on the Digital Campus Initiative. MSU has entered a partnership with Campus Pipeline as the first step in developing a digital environment to serve students and others through user-centered web portals and integrated IT and communication systems. Campus Pipeline representatives will meet with Information Technology staff and representative faculty and staff groups on campus on July 25-27.

Dr. Portera presented a recommendation that the MSU Meridian Campus Auditorium be named for local businessman Maurice F. "Buddy" Kahlmus, who helped lead fundraising efforts for the building. The recommendation was referred to the Naming of Facilities Committee.
