Meeting 317 - November 6, 2000
Executive Council met at 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. David Cole, presiding, Dr. Charles Lee, Dr. Brad Carter, Dr. Dan Embree, Jan Bryant, Gaddis Hunt, Dr. Robert Altenkirch, Jenny Reeves, Dr. Roy Ruby, Charles Guest, Joe Farris, Julie Fulgham, George Parsons, John McRae, Rachel McCann, Ann Bell, Don Zant, John Plodinec, and Bob Luke.
Rachel McCann and John McRae of the School of Architecture presented a recommendation that a small wooden pavilion, about 14 feet square and of traditional Japanese joinery, be located west of Bost Extension Center parking lot, and south of Barr Avenue/University Drive. The pavilion will serve as an informal gathering place. Construction costs are covered by a private gift and construction and maintenance will be handled by the School of Architecture. The structure and site were previously endorsed by the Campus Planning and Development Committee. Executive Council recommended approval of the project.
Dr. Ruby and architect Bob Luke presented plans for a renovation of Critz Hall, including full interior renovation and construction of an exterior courtyard. Executive Council recommended approval of the plans. Construction is expected to begin in January 2001.
Dr. Altenkirch recommended approval of signage for the Diagnostic Instrumentation and Analysis Laboratory identifying the main entrance and the delivery entrance for the facility. The council recommended approval.
Dr. Altenkirch recommended approval of a plan to located storage containers for equipment and materials behind the DIAL facility. The containers would be screened from public view landscaping and a fence. The Council recommended approval.
Gaddis Hunt and Ann Bell presented for approval two revised Human Resources policies: Employment Authorization, 60-14, and Determining Pay for Promotions, Reassessments, Redistributions and Transfers-Nonexempt Employees, 60-307. The council recommended approval of both policies.
Mr. Prescott and Don Zant recommended approval a revised version of the policy Operating Policy and Procedure System, 1.1. The council recommended approval.
University Counsel Charles Guest presented for initial review a proposed operating policy and procedure on Legal Services. The proposal will be considered at a future council meeting.
Dr. Lee recommended that the planned furniture manufacturing and management facility be named for Hassell H. Franklin of Houston, whose $1 million gift helped make possible the building. The council recommended approval.
Dr. Cole reported that the previous weekend's faculty-administrative roundtable discussion sponsored by the Faculty Senate was very successful and beneficial.
