Meeting 315 - August 11, 2000
Executive Council met at 11 a.m. at 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Malcolm Portera, Gaddis Hunt, Dr. Brad Carter, Jenny Reeves, Dennis Prescott, Dr. David Cole, Danny Cheatham, Dr. Bob Altenkirch, Dr. Roy Ruby, Dr. Lou D'Abramo, Jean Bailey, Charles Guest, Joe Farris, George Parsons, Julie Fulgham, Bill Broyles, Ann Bailey, Dr. Cynthia West, Rachel McCann, and architects Chris Morrow and Sherry Berry.
Mr. Cheatham introduced Chris Morrow of Pryor and Morrow architects, who presented for review schematic designs of the planned furniture research building. The two-story building will consist of an academic and administrative wing and a laboratory wing, and will be located at the intersection of Blackjack Road and Locksley Way. The council recommended approval of the schematic designs.
Dr. Cole introduced Rachel McCann of the School of Architecture, who briefly described plans for a Japanese-trained architect to work with MSU architecture students to erect on campus a pergola, a permanent outdoor pavilion. Funding is provided by a private donor. The Campus Planning and Development Committee will be asked to review a proposed site for the structure prior to consideration of the proposal by Executive Council.
Dr. Ruby presented for information a proposed schedule for renovation of campus residence halls over the next several years.
Mr. Hunt presented for review and later consideration by the council proposed revisions of Human Resources Management policies on outside employment, dual employment, additional compensation, and salary and wage adjustments.
Dr. Portera reported on legislative budget hearings held earlier in the week. Indications are that state funding for next year will be reduced, and there is the possibility of a cut in budgeted state funds during the current year.
The meeting adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
