Executive Council met at 611 Allen Hall at 11 a.m. Present were Dr. Malcolm Portera, presiding, Dr. David Cole, Matt Allen, Larry Templeton, Gaddis Hunt, Dennis Prescott, Dr. Robert Altenkirch, Ms. Susan Everett, Dr. Robert Cooper, Dr. Roy Ruby, Dr. Charles Lee, Dr. Roy Ikenberry, Charles Guest, Joe Farris, Dr. Melvin Ray, and Mike Rackley.

Dr. Ruby recommended approval of Student Affairs Policy 91.200, Student and Other University Organizations. The revised policy incorporates changes suggested by the Faculty Senate. The council recommended approval.

Mr. Guest presented for initial review proposed revised policies on tuition remission for employees and children of employees. The proposed changes in the university policies reflect recent changes in Institutions of Higher Learning policy. The primary changes would limit tuition remission for employees to six credit hours per semester, rather than two courses per semester, and would change the grade point average required for remission of tuition for children of employees from 2.0 to 2.5.

Mr. Prescott presented a Campus Planning and Development Committee recommendation that the banners proposed to hang on utility poles on Lee Boulevard be concentrated between the YMCA Building and Bost Extension Building, rather than dispersed between the Bost Building and McKee Hall. The council recommended approval.

Ms. Everett presented a Professional and Support Staff Advisory Council recommendation that the Friday before Homecoming be declared "Maroon and White Day" and designated a casual dress day to encourage participation. The president approved the recommendation.

Dr. Cole reported that the Task Force on Admissions, Retention and Graduation had held an initial meeting.

Dr. Portera requested suggestions on ways to improve communications with university staff members.

Dr. Portera reported that the previous weekend's auction of about 175 vehicles netted approximately $205,000.

Dr. Cole reported that he had begun making disbursements to academic departments from a special $500,000 fund created to help ease the impact of the current year budget reallocation.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 11:30 a.m.
