Executive Council met at 11 a.m. at 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. David Cole, presiding, Dr. Euel Coats, Dr. Warren Thompson, Dr. Roy Ruby, Dennis Prescott, Dr. Bob Altenkirch, Gaddis Hunt, Bill Broyles, Dr. Bob Cooper, Ms. Susan Everett, Joe Farris, Charles Guest, Dr. Melvin Ray, Dr. Roy Ikenberry and Mike Rackley.

Dr. Cole welcomed Dr. Warren Thompson to the council as interim vice president for agriculture, forestry, and veterinary medicine.

Mr. Hunt recommended approval of the revised policy on university travel, which incorporates changes suggested by the Faculty Senate. The council recommended approval.

Dr. Ruby introduced for review a proposed revision of the Student Affairs Policy 91.200, "Student Organizations," including a name change to "Policy on Student and Other University Organizations."

Dr. Ruby recommended elimination of Student Affairs Policy 91.202, "Eligibility Requirements for Initiation into a Social Fraternity or Sorority." The council recommended by the policy be deleted.

Dr. Altenkirch reported that external funding proposals submitted in May were up by 5 percent from the previous year and awards received were up by 7 percent from May 1998. Total funding for 1998-99 through May was $63 million.

Dr. Ruby reported that on-line scheduling for fall semester is up by 45 students from the comparable date last year, including both new and returning students.

Mr. Broyles introduced Susan Everett, the 1999-2000 chair of the Professional and Support Staff Advisory Committee.
