Meeting 288 - March 8, 1999
Executive Council met at 11 a.m. at 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Malcolm Portera, presiding, Dr. David Cole, Dr. Euel Coats, Dr. Rodney Foil, Ms. Leah Norman, Dr. Roy Ruby, Dr. Bob Altenkirch, Bill Broyles, Joe Farris, Charles Guest, and Dr. Melvin Ray.
Dr. Ruby presented for approval in concept a recommendation to renovate and expand Colvard Union. The council recommended approval.
Dr. Ruby recommended that approval be requested from the Board of Trustees to increase rent at Aiken Village from $200 to $225 per month for one-bedroom apartments and from $225 to $260 per month for two-bedroom apartments, and that approval be requested from the Board of Trustees to raise the typical double-occupancy rate for residence halls from $850 to $900 per semester. Both increases would help fund renovations. MSU housing fees would remain the lowest in the Southeastern Conference. The council recommended approval.
Dr. Coats reported that the faculty approved in mail balloting two changes to the Faculty Charter, clarifying that Giles Distinguished Professor is an honorary distinction rather than a faculty rank and eliminating Continuing Education representation on the Faculty Senate.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 11:20 a.m.
