Executive Council met at 7:30 a.m. at Bryan Athletic Administration Building. Present were Dr. Malcolm Portera, presiding, Larry Templeton, Ms. Leah Norman, Dr. Rodney Foil, Dr. Billy Ward, Dr. Roy Ruby, Dr. Euel Coats, Dr. Melvin Ray, Ms. Patsy Douglas, Dr. Derek Hodgson, Dr. R. D. Ikenberry, Charles Guest, Joe Farris, and Gaddis Hunt.

Dr. Ruby presented for concept approval a proposal to renovate the YMCA Plaza to remove barriers to accessibility, improve pedestrian flow, and improve appearance. The council recommended approval.

Mr. Hunt presented for concept approval a proposal to construct a parking lot for approximately 120 cars south of Hand Chemical Lab. The council recommended approval.

Dr. Hodgson proposed the designation of an associate dean of libraries. He will work with the affirmative action office to secure an affirmative action waiver to allow an internal promotion to fill the proposed post.

Ms. Douglas announced that Staff Appreciation Day will be held on May 15 on the Drill Field and will include presentation of the Distinguished Staff Awards.

Dr. Ruby reported on a meeting with the Transportation Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and recommended that the university proceed with plans for construction of a connector road from University Drive to Barr Avenue.

Dr. Portera reported on conversations with city officials concerning possible development of a hotel and conference center.

Mr. Hunt conducted a campus bus tour to review construction and repair needs related to sidewalks, parking, streets and curbs and gutters.
