Executive Council met at 9 a.m. in 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Donald Zacharias, presiding, Dr. Melvin Ray, Dr. Rodney Foil, Dr. Billy Ward, Larry Templeton, Mike Richardson, Dr. Roy Ruby, Dr. Leslie Bauman, Ms. Leah Norman, Dr. George Rent, Char les Guest, Joe Farris, Dr. R. D. Ikenberry, Mike White and Don Mott.

Mr. White and Mr. Mott presented plans for the connector road that will link University Drive and Barr Ave. Construction bids are to be opened next week. Three older houses and a few trees will be removed to accommodate the two-lane street and adjace nt bike path. Approximately 35 parking spaces in the Bost Extension Building parking lot will be lost.

Dr. Zacharias reported that the university has been invited to affiliate with the Center for Academic Integrity based at Rutgers University. The Council recommended that the university join the organization.

Dr. Ward presented a proposal from the Oktibbeha County Chapter of the Alumni Association to design and erect banners promoting Starkville and Mississippi State among University Drive from Main Street to the central campus. The chapter has inquired about university financial assistance with the project. The proposal was referred to the Campus Planning and Development Committee.

Ms. Norman presented a summary of plans for development of a help desk for campus computer users to be offered by the Information Systems and User Support department. Tentative plans call for the system to be in operation in January.

Mr. Templeton presented for concept approval a proposal to place canopies over the entrances to the Seal M-Club Building. The concept was approved and forwarded to the Campus Planning and Development Committee.

Mr. Richardson inquired about progress in implementing the improved modem pool for dial-up access and procedures for establishing student and faculty accounts. Accounts may be established by contacting Telecommunications.

Dr. Zacharias noted that Board of Trustees member Ricki Garrett will visit the campus on July 31 and will have lunch with Executive Council that day. A brief tour of some campus facilities is planned.
