Meeting 233 - July 7, 1997
Executive Council met at 9 a.m. 611 Allen Hall. Present were Dr. Donald Zacharias, presiding, Dr. Rodney Foil, Dr. Roy Ruby, Ms. Leah Norman, Dr. Leslie Bauman, Dr. George Rent, Dr. Melvin Ray, Ms. Patsy Douglas, Mike Richardson, Charles Guest, Joe Farris, and Dr. R. D. Ikenberry.
Dr. Zacharias announced that Paul Welch will serve as the campus United Way coordinator for the coming campaign and requested that vice presidents designate a representative for each university division no later than July 14.
Dr. Rent presented a new Academic Operating Policy and Procedure (AOP 13.22) defining adjunct faculty, visiting faculty, visiting scholar, and visiting executive appointments. The council recommended approval of the policy with an amendment clarifying the nature of adjunct appointments.
Ms. Norman reported that a new state law apparently will require the university to begin paying all employees twice monthly beginning in January 1999.
Dr. Zacharias reported that discussions are continuing concerning the university's opportunities for involvement in the "Wonders of Versailles" exhibit planned for Jackson next summer.
Dr. Ikenberry distributed for review a revised summary of the university's asking budget request for FY 1999.
Dr. Ruby reported that construction of the outdoor recreation fields has been delayed this spring by wet weather and the fields probably will not open until late fall.
Ms. Norman presented for final approval a revised operating policy and procedure on university travel.
