The Executive Council held its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. in the President’s Conference Room in Lee Hall. Present were Dr. Mark Keenum, presiding, Dr. Tracey Baham, Mr. Robert Banik, Dr. Keith Coble, Ms. Leslie Corey, Mr. Jason Cory, Mr. Cameron Cummings, Ms. Lesia Ervin, Ms. Ra’Sheda Boddie-Forbes, Dr. Brent Fountain, Dr. Regina Hyatt, Ms. Christine Jackson, Ms. Carson McFatridge, Ms. Melanie McQuirter, Mr. John Rush, Mr. Sid Salter, Mr. Lee Weiskopf, and Mr. Jim Laird.

Dr. Keenum started the meeting by welcoming Mr. Cummings, the new Student Association president, to his first Executive Council meeting. He was accompanied by Ms. McFatridge, the SA’s immediate past president.

On behalf of Dr. David Shaw, Dr. Baham presented:

-- AOP 13.03: Responsibilities in Instruction and Curriculum, and Attendance at Classes. Among the changes to the policy are an addition of a common university syllabus and of guidance calling for an update to curricula every five years. Council members voted to approve.

Dr. Hyatt presented:

-- OP 91.352: Use of Automated External Defibrillators. The update refocuses the policy on how MSU manages AEDs on campus. In the future, an additional update will be needed when state law is changed to provide university employees with liability protection when using AEDs, similar to the current language for K-12 personnel. Council members voted to approve.

Two policies were presented to Executive Council as consent agenda items and approved:

-- OP 79.06: Controlled Substances Used in Research. The only changes are to correct the URLs of the reference material and to update office and title names.

-- AOP 11.05: Requirements for Shortened-Format Courses was presented for rescission because the content from this policy was combined with AOP 12.12: Credit and Grades.

Additionally, three policies have been modified with technical changes recently to meet federal guidelines:

-- OP 03.02: Statement on Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination

-- OP 03.03: Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation

-- OP 03.04: Sexual Misconduct

No action related to these modifications was required from Executive Council.
