Mississippi State’s inaugural James Patterson Teacher Education Scholars present a “Helping Hands of Friendship” book to MSU President Mark E. Keenum on Monday [Aug. 29] in historic Lee Hall. Produced during the 2015-16 academic year, the book resulted from a writing competition that the eight elementary education majors hosted for third graders in the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District. Now beginning their sophomore year in Mississippi State’s College of Education, the first class of Patterson Scholars include, from left, Brooke Leggett of Centreville, Alabama; Mary Hannah Swan of Madison; Amanda Hayes of Madison, Alabama; Caroline Thomas of Cumming, Georgia, Caitlin McFarland of Franklin, Tennessee; Jodie Newsom of Laurel; Abigail Yann of Franklin, Tennessee; and Hannah Duke of Birmingham, Alabama.
