State of Excellence: What comes next?

November 1, 2018

A message from President Mark E. Keenum:

I firmly believe that success is not an accident, and that it takes planning, preparation, and execution to achieve. Nearly a decade ago, I returned home to Mississippi State University, and one of my early priorities was to develop a comprehensive strategic plan with extensive input from faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

Many of you contributed to the State of Excellence plan, and it has provided a solid foundation that we have used to reach unprecedented heights in fulfilling our 140-year-old mission of teaching, research, and service. We have set enrollment records, expanded our research portfolio, and made a difference in the communities we serve. In many ways, we have truly achieved a State of Excellence, and now it's time to ask, "What's next?"

Today, I am pleased to announce that we are beginning the formal process of updating the university's strategic plan. Dr. Judy Bonner, our provost and executive vice president, is leading this effort with members of the President's Committee on Planning, and I encourage you to share your ideas, suggestions, and concerns as we move forward with this update. You can learn more about this process and provide comments at https://www.president.msstate.edu/excellence.

Sincerely,

Signature of Mark Keenum
